American

Restaurants can be broken down into not only different restaurant types but also food types as well. Some examples of these may be – Asian, bakeries, barbecue, coffeehouses, desserts, family style, Italian or pizza, Mexican, sandwiches or seafood. This page deals specifically with the “American” food type which can almost be a catch-all for a restaurant that serves a variety of meats and menu options. One of the reasons this term is used is to differentiate these restaurants from some of their ethnic counterparts such as  Asian, Italian or Mexican. Some examples of “American” types of establishments would be O’Charleys, Applebees and Chili’s Grill.
